William H. Holmes Elementary School is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education. Included in this purpose is the understanding that parents and teachers must work together as partners. Educational research supports the notion that a sufficient impact on achievement is observed in situations where parental involvement is high. The quality of education to which we all aspire is the result, not only of planning, but also of the continuous growth by parents, teachers, and administration.

Our school’s mission is threefold:

1.    To  foster each child’s positive concept of self as a learner and as a member of his or her neighborhood, cultural, and school communities

2.    To enhance each child’s motivation to learn

3.    To enable each child to acquire basic thinking and content skills necessary to facilitate further learning

These goals are accomplished in a learning environment that allows the children to view themselves as capable human beings through the nurturing of self-esteem and the learning of value differences while at the same time identifying similarities between themselves and others. Thus, an atmosphere of acceptance of cultural, racial and gender difference is promoted.

We are most concerned with the personal development of each child, acknowledging that without a positive self-image children cannot fully realize their potential as learners or as vital members of the community. Building a future community that celebrates diversity is an explicit goal at Holmes School. Technology is an integral part of the program which is continually expanding to bring us through the twenty-first century.
